Slow Hunting Season Start

This week in Montana is the opening of pheasant and antelope gun hunting season. The reason for the slow start is because the weather was warmer than desired. Another major reason is because this year, the pheasant and deer populations are lower than before. Region 7, which is in southeastern Montana, is considered to be the place with the best pheasant populations.

Regarding the deer populations in central Montana, their number is quite high and the best area would have to be in the near vicinity of Kalispell. Elk populations are going up this year and hunters are advised to go near Great Falls where they can also find a good distribution of older age animals. Deer and elk seasons start on October 23rd.
