San Francisco Gun Law ruling challenged by NRAAttempts have recently been made by the National Rifle Association (NRA) to try and force an injunction and bring about a decision to overturn the ruling regarding the enforcement of gun laws in the city of San Francisco.
Unfortunately, although the District Judge who heard the case was sympathetic to the argument, he ruled that the local laws do not, in general, seem to violate those standards outlined back in 2008, when the Supreme Court issued a directive which permitted individuals to possess a firearm in their own home for the purpose of self-defence, as a specific constitutional right.
The dispute centred around residents being forced to lock up their weapons whilst stored in their property. This was felt by the NRA suppressed owners ability to undertake that very same self-defence, especially during the early hours of the morning, when the threat is greatest.
The city's Attorney was pleased with the outcome, and added that the local laws had been initiated with public safety uppermost in the thinking behind them. However, there could still be a twist, as there is an appeal set for early December at the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals, which will once again challenge the ruling.
