More Women Are Buying Hunting Rifles

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is keeping track of the increase among women purchasing guns - in 2009 the gun stores owners reported a whopping 73% increase in female customers. 28.5% of these guns were bought for hunting purposes while the rest were for personal protection.

More than that, the same association noted that more women than men took up hunting in 2009 and the number increased by 5.4% since 2008, adding 163,000 new female hunters. As of 2009, there were 6.42 million women that enjoyed hunted, in comparison to 2006 when there were only 5.35 million.

Aside from buying hunting rifles, women also started buying accessories made especially for these products, and going out with other female hunters in record numbers.

The women attendance to the National Rifle Association (NRA) shooting clinics for women has increased by a solid 20%. According to Diane Danielson, who is the coordinator of the clinics, in 2010 these clinics taught more than 10,000 women to shoot, not including the rest of the programs the NRA sponsors for women, like the overnight hunting trips and the self-defense classes.
