Hunting on the Lake Leads to Arrests
Authorities in Madera County uncovered more than half a dozen weapons when they stumbled upon a couple of guys who were apparently target shooting near Redinger Lake.
U.S. Forest Service officials picked up 21-year-old Christopher Nichols and 43-year-old Steven Overturf on Sunday after an officer heard shots being fired in the area near the lake.
Nichols -- who was on parole out of Fresno for auto theft -- initially gave a bogus ID-- but his true identity was quickly discovered and he was arrested.
The Madera County Sheriff's office was advised of the arrests and proceeded to launch an investigation.
Deputies seized methamphetamine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia -- along with a weapons cache that included two assault rifles and a 12 gauge shotgun -- among other weapons.
Overturf is out on bail.
Nichols, however, remains jailed on a parole hold.

I am glad they caught Nichols because I read in the newspaper a few months ago that he tried to hunt in another ilegal area with a pump shotgun.
