Browning Rifles

The Browning Arms company was founded in 1927 in Utah and offers a large palette of firearms that include rifles, pistols, shotguns and also rimfire firearms. In their offer they also have sport bows. The company was created to market the non-military sporting designs of John Browning which is considered to be one of the most prolific firearms creator in the world. Just about all of his designs were produced by other companies. Some examples would be Remington, Colt, Winchester and Miroku. The Browning Arms company is famous for the A-Bolt rifle, the BAR semi-automatic sporting rifle and the Browning BPS shotgun. They also provide many other non-firearm outdoor products like knives, clothing, shooting accessories and gun safes.

The company was bought by the Fabrique Nationale Of Belgium in 1977 after a 79 years of business association. Manufacturing is done in many factories in Belgium, Utah, Japan, Italy and Portugal making the company a very versatile component of the firearm industry. John Moses Browning is credited with an impressive number of 128 gun patents; more than 50 million military and sports weapons were produced from those patents during the 47 years period when he was an active inventor.

Over the years, Browning Arms has produced many popular rifles that are used even today although many models have been discontinued. We will now offer you some of the most famous rifles that the company produced over its prolific history. We will start with a model that is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale Of Belgium in Belgium, Miroku Corporation in Japan and A.T.I. United States.

Browning A-Bolt Rifle

The Browning A-Bolt Rifle is a very popular hunting bolt-action rifle thanks to its accuracy and availability. The rifle uses a non-rotating bolt sleeve and when the bolt is unlocked, smoothness is achieved with three guide ribs that are aligned with three locking lungs which enables very precise movement. The three lugs also play a major part in increasing the bolt strength. The unique cartridge depressor greatly increases the smoothness of the bolt. The rifle’s barrel is free-floating while the recoil lug is glass bedded.

The rifle comes in many variations but with small differences from one model to another, here are some of the most popular variations: Hunter Rifles, Varmint Stalker Rifles, Eclipse Hunter Rifles, Composite Stalker Rifles and Stainless Stalker Rifles. The rifle uses a detachable box magazine (the magazine capacity depends on caliber). Speaking of cartridge type the standard model has a magazine capacity of 4+1. The .223 Remington offers a magazine capacity of 5+1 while the Magnums & WSM along with the A-Bolt Micro Hunter (all calibers) offer a magazine capacity of 3+1.

We will now continue with a lever-action hunting rifle that comes in many variations: chambered from .22-250 Remington to .325 WSM to .450 Marlin.

Browning BLR

The Browning BLR is one of the most versatile rifles out there because it can be used for almost any shooting. Thanks to the fact that the BLR can be chambered to a wide variety of cartridges, the rifle offers many uses. For small game like fox or coyotes, the .243 Winchester or the .25-250 are the most suitable. For elk or deer hunting, experienced hunters use the .308. The large calibers will easily handle any large game across North America. Most of the BLR models are called the ‘81 model. The first models were made out of steel while the current models have an action made of aircraft-grade alloy which makes the rifle much lighter.

One of the major advantages this rifle has to offer is the conventional magazine which allows the BLR to be chambered to rounds with pointed tip bullets like the .308 that wouldn’t be recommended for tubular magazines. Another advantage would be the bolt design and the geared lever which can accommodate high pressure modern magnum rounds like the 7mm. The BLR rifles are made in short/long models in order to accommodate a wide variety of calibers.

The last model we present is a semi-automatic gas-operated rifle that was first produced in Belgium and then later on was introduced in Japan.

Browning BAR

The Browning BAR loads from a box of magazine that is detachable from a hinged floor plate. Although there is another BAR model this one shouldn’t be confused with the M1918 military rifle which is totally different in terms of design and not only. Regarding variations of this model, the BAR comes in different models, as follows: Safari, Lightweight Stalker and Long & ShortTrac. The last two models are available in a Mossy Oak takedown. The most luxurious variant of the Browning BAR is the Safari model which offers an engraved steel receiver and a more refined walnut stock.

The barrel depends on the caliber and comes in a 22, 23 or a 24 inches long variation. The Browning Safari BAR is the only configuration of the rile that offers the Browning BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System) which reduces the recoil and enchases accuracy. The Lightweight variant of the BAR rifle offers no engraving and an aluminum-alloy receiver. The rifle’s stock is matte-black synthetic. The LongTrac and ShortTrac variations are equipped with an aluminum-alloy receiver without any engraving, a more styled stock and a plastic trigger guard.

We have offered you three of the most famous Browning rifles ever produced in the long and prolific history of the company, a company that produces long lasting rifles that are known for their accuracy and resistance.
