Sako Rifles
SAKO (Suojeluskuntain Ase- ja Konepaja Oy, Civil Guard Gun and Machiningworks Ltd) is a Finnish firearm manufacturer that was formed on June 1st 1927 from the Suojeluskuntain Yliesikunnan Asepaja (Civil Guard Supreme Staff Gun Works). In the present, the SAKO company is owned by Beretta Holdings. The company is located in Riihimäki and at first was located in Helsinki. The very first civilian SAKO rifle was the L42 chambered for the 7×33 SAKO cartridge and the commercial production started right after the World War II. The 7×33 cartridge was based on the 9×19 pistol cartridge, they made a longer case and they lowered the case to 7mm caliber.
In 1957 the manufacturer introduced a longer action, the L57 which later was known under the name of L579 “Forester“ and used the .308 Winchester (and similar) cartridges. 4 years later in 1961 SAKO introduced the L61R “Finnbear“ for longer cartridges like the 6.5×55, .30-06 and other similar cartridges. The 1957 model of the L579 “Forester“ was replaced in 1992 with the 591 model.

The SAKO TRG-22 is based on a very successful target rifle just like many other European sniper rifles. The foundation from which this model was produced is the TR-6 model. This model offers a detachable 10-round magazine and cartridges load easily into magazines. The trigger of this model is not only excellent but it also offers a flexible design. There are many configurations available for this rifle, some of them would be:
• Black rifle with blued receiver & barrel, steel color bolt.
• Black rifle with non-blued stainless barrel, steel color bolt.
• Stealth with phosphatized action and barrel, blackened bolt.
• Green rifle with phosphatized action and barrel, steel color bolt.
The recoil of this rifle is very light thanks to the effective muzzlebrake. The solid vault-like action is cold hammer-forged from a very special steel alloy. The sturdy bolt with three locking lugs feeds rounds unfailingly from the centerline of a detachable staggered 2-row magazine. Bolt lift is only 60° for fast bolt throw.
