The Lyman Ideal Model Sharps RifleThe Lyman Ideal Model Sharps Rifle has the same twin locking bolts which drop down on either side of a solid falling breech block, that a previous version uniquely possessed, and in its day was the actual rifle of choice for famous buffalo hunters, such as Bat Masterson and Billy Dixon, due to its wonderful versatility.
The new design is far more sleeker and slimmer, indeed it is probably as much as two-thirds the size of its predecessor and as a consequence, is significantly lighter in its overall weight. It is especially handy for those of a smaller build, who maybe sometimes struggle a little with the heavier guns.
Loading of the weapon is a relatively simple procedure, with a basic operation to swing the trigger-guard lever down to expose the breech. The trigger can also be used in the unset position, but obviously with a need for great care. The rifle can take some getting used to, especially with its lightweight design, but on the whole it has received some excellent reviews.
