When did you start hunting and how ?
My Dad took me out hunting around the age of 3, I shoot my 1st duck at age 4 and 1st Whitetail Buck at age 7. I was blessed to be born into a family of very avid hunters.

Which are your 3 top preferred games ?
Waterfowl - Turkey - Deer

Which is your number 1 preferred game and why ?
I enjoy the challenge of hunting snow geese, to kill consistent numbers, you have to have a real understanding of the birds. Many would wonder why I choose the snow goose over Trophy whitetails. I have taken 17 P&Y bucks and 6 netting over 160″ with shotgun and muzzle loader. Not much thrill in it for me anymore.

What hunting method do you prefer and why ?
I do enjoy archery hunting for whitetails. To get a monster buck at less than 20 yards consistently is fun. I also love killing coyotes, way too many and smart.

What rifles/shotguns do you own at the moment ?
I have always favored Remington and Inthaca guns. Hard to beat a Remingtom 870 shotgun, I have never had 1 fail yet. For varmints I have a Reminton 660. It was chambered in 6mm. I had it converted to a .243 added and a custom barrel, glass bedded and Timeney trigger. My farthest kill to date was a coyote at 479 yards. I also own several Knight Muzzle loaders, all are tack drivers.

Which is your preferred hunting gun and why ?
Overall a Remington 870 is my favorite gun. Iowa allows only slug deer hunting. With the barrel options these days, this 1 gun can fit any situation I encounter.

Which is your preferred ammo for the top 3 games you mentioned earlier ?
For Waterfowl hunting I use Hevi-Steel,# 2 or BB.
I shoot Remington 1oz deer slugs.
I shoot a 240 gr Knight bullet and 150 grains of pyrodex pellets in my muzzle loader.
For varmints I reload my own ammo. Nosler 55 Gr partitions.

For the top 3 games you mentioned earlier, what guns do you recommend to be used ?
Waterfowl - Remington 870 or Remington 11-87 12 gauge
Turkey - Remington 870 or Remington 11-87 12 gauge
Deer - Remingtonn 870 - Remingtonn 11-87 12 or 20 gauge. I recommend a slug barrel, fully rifled.

For varmints there are many great options on the market, Savage is producing some very accurate rifles and a good price. Never “cheat” yourself on your optics. You can not kill what you can not see. Buy the best optics you can find.

What is your advice for an amateur hunter ?
My advice is to be patient. Real life situations are nothing like a DVD or TV show. Do not get discouraged. If you have questions about hunting there are many outlets for information. You may be able to find a local hunter to be a mentor, local pro shops offer great advice, and the internet forums can also be very helpful.
