Duck Hunting Rifles
Choosing the most appropriate duck hunting gun can be a difficult matter that not all hunters can handle, that is why we offer you 6 steps which you should follow in order to make your life easier and pick the most suitable duck hunting gun for you:
Step No.1 – you should choose between 10, 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. From these three, the 10 is the most popular among duck hunters but it is a little bit heavy;
Step No.2 – regarding shells, you should use non-toxic shells like steel, tungsten and bismuth models. The last two models are more expensive but they can be used with older gun models that aren’t designed to use steel shells;
Step No.3 – look for purchasing pumps or autoloaders as these reload quicker and easier in comparison with a break action gun. The autoloaders are gentler on the hunter’s shoulder but the pumps are somewhat cheaper and more reliable, even in harsh environments;
Step No.4 - you might want to try a 3 ½ inch or a 3 inch 12 gauge as these models aren’t very heavy in comparison with the 10 gauge models. Except for the long-distance shootings, the 3 inch gun is the perfect choice for all hunters. The 3 ½ inch model is comparable to the 10 gauge but it has the advantage of being more maneuverable;
Step No.5 – for a more level swing you should purchase a gun that has a longer barrel ( over 26 inches ). The long barrel also offers the advantage of being much easier on the hunter’s ears;
Step No.6 - if you have the possibility, try different firearms and find out which one is the most suitable as all hunters have different hunting styles so there isn’t a firearm that suits all hunting styles.
